What is the Synod
Pope Francis has called the entire People of God to journey together by participating in the upcoming Synod of Bishops. This Synod is entitled: “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission.” It is not just another meeting with oral presentations and written reports. The Synod is a process of journeying together by listening, dialoguing, praying, discerning, and making decisions together for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Clergy, religious and laity together are called to listen to each other’s joys and hopes, and griefs and anxieties (c.f. Gaudium et Spes no. 1). The “goal” of this journeying together is not to create a new vision or pastoral plan with objectives. Rather, the goal of our journeying together is to be present with one another, to listen and learn with each other, and to grow closer to the Lord and His Church.
¿Qué es el Sínodo?
El Papa Francisco ha llamado a todo el Pueblo de Dios a caminar juntos participando en el próximo Sínodo de los Obispos. Este Sínodo se titula: “Por una Iglesia sinodal: Comunión, Participación y Misión”. No es una junta más con presentaciones orales y informes escritos. El Sínodo es un proceso de caminar juntos escuchando, dialogando, orando, discerniendo y tomando decisiones juntos con el propósito de proclamar el Evangelio de Jesucristo.
El clero, los religiosos y los laicos están llamados a escuchar las alegrías y esperanzas, penas y angustias de los demá (cf. Gaudium et spes n. 1). El “objetivo” de este caminar juntos es no crear una nueva visión o proyecto pastoral con objetivos. Más bien, el objetivo de nuestro viaje juntos es estar presentes unos con otros, escuchar y aprender unos con otros, y crecer más cerca del Señor y de su Iglesia.
